Candy Cane Cookies

 

Ingredients:

 

½ cup butter, softened              
1 ½ tsp. almond extract
½ cup shortening                      
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup confectioner’s sugar           
2 ½ cups flour
1 egg                                   
½ tsp salt
½ tsp. red food coloring

Heat oven to 375º.  Mix butter, shortening, sugar, egg and flavorings.  Blend in flour and salt.  Divide cough in half; blend food coloring into half.  Twist white and red “ropes” of dough together.  Shape into canes.  Bake 9 minutes.
