Adventures in Deafness

I have been teaching some of the brightest, craziest, most interesting Deaf kids in Georgia for the past 18 years.  I’m a big fan of the bilingual/bicultural approach to teaching and have noticed a significant jump in my students’ reading levels once I switched from using Signed English to American Sign Language.

"See!  See!  See!  See!" I saw this article in the back of a book on Deafness and thought it very profound.

This is my thwelth year of helping out at Camp Juliena, a summer camp for Deaf children at Fort Yargo State Park, Winder, Georgia, in which I’ve been a counselor and Nature Director.  "Career Counselor" describes some of my observances and experiences at camp.

CAREER COUNSELOR

Deaf people have a somewhat quirky sense of humor that most hearing people can't appreciate, but some of their jokes are really funny.  Here are some of the classic DEAF JOKES.

I've been collecting Deafisms over the years, and here is a sample of some of the quotes about Deafness that I've found to be true.
